Sacred Glastonbury- Isle of Avalon

'Echoes of Avalon' -  my third and most recent Glastonbury painting
My first Glastonbury inspired drawing from the 1980's
My second visit to Glastonbury, five years ago, found me immersed in Buddhist meditation practice...at this time I saw The Tor as a Stupa...I wrote the following verse - 'Struck with awe, beholding Glastonbury Tor! Filled with delight, at this sacred site...outspread below, sunset plains, all aglow - gaze around and around, let the magic abound! He is here- in the grass! In the wind! In the Trees...Padmasambhava gazes...and through my eyes sees...
A few weeks ago I went back for a third visit to Glastonbury, Somerset. Steeped in a blend of history and mythology, with the legends of King Arthur, and with intriguing claims to have been visited by Joseph of Arimathea...Glastonbury comes loaded with expectation. Having been fascinated all my life by myth, legend, all things 'unexplained' and the spiritual aspects of being, places such as this have a powerful attraction for me. My recent visit, in the second week of September was powerful and enjoyable, effecting me on different levels - no doubt the echoes will be rippling through the deeper levels of my psyche for some time to come. The three visits I've made to Glastonbury, spread out over the last 25 years, have all resulted in artwork of one kind or another, so I thought I might as well bring these pieces together here.  For me, there's no doubting the effect of being in the presence of The Tor. Perhaps these pieces of art are the best way I can describe this - but if I were asked to put  into words the effect of my recent visit, I would say that the landscape, the geography, and the earth energies of this magical place had given me an intense psychic massage...
